Mistakes, I’ve made a few…

Back in my Text 100 days, MD Katie Kemp used to give excellent motivational speeches to staff. One of my favourites of hers was: “You learn by your mistakes, so make plenty of them.”
Now, arguably, some of us took those words a little too literally, but it was a good philosophy to remind us to take risks. Risk-free PR activity doesn’t land the ‘how did you manage to get that?’ coverage that people love and remember.
So it was a nice reminder to see Sir Terry Leahy’s quote in The Times today: “Every good thing I’ve been associated with has been littered by mistakes.”

A fair proportion of our clients have ‘CIO’ as their primary target audience. We have internal research to helps us build a picture of a ‘typical’ CIO, and where he gets his (and yes, he generally is a he) most trusted information from (his direct reports and other CIOs head the list).

In the same way that footballers often revert to clichés such as ‘over the moon,’ ‘sick as a parrot,’ ‘game of two halves’ and ‘well, she looked over 16,’ I often slip into the same lazy shorthand by comparing online communication with pub conversation.
