“Twitter a fad? Only if someone does it better…”
Posted by chameleon-admin August 6 2009 12:15pm
That was Evan Williams’ response when asked if the microblogging service he co-founded was the latest fad on BBC Newsnight last night.
The interview marked the announcement from Twitter that London is still the top tweeting city in the world, with the UK as a whole second only to the US in terms of number of Twitter users!
Whilst the interview didn’t exactly ask the most interesting of questions (Newsnight’s audience isn’t exactly web 2.0 generation-Y), nor provide any great insight into anything we dont already know, Evan had some interesting responses. On the topic of Twitter as a form of journalism, the young CEO said this:
“It’s not necessarily journalism, certainly not in the classic case. But it does enable people to report news and events as they are happening, and often from the ground. We just saw in Iran people on the streets reporting what was going on. It was newsworthy content people were tweeting. There’s also a lot of commentary of what was going on, but it doesn’t take the place of journalists or news because you still need analysis, you still need verification of information, but it adds another layer to the information ecosystem.”
I’ll admit, 2 years ago when I started using Twitter, I had my reservations. How could it compete with something now integrated into other social networking systems (such as Facebook and Bebo’s status update features)? Either way, it is, and for London to be at the top still, it says something about London 2.0 eh?
Did I mention we have digital and social media specialists at both Chameleon and Komodo?

Steve’s given birth!
Posted by chameleon-admin August 5 2009 11:39am
Perhaps I should have thought about that title better. No need to call New Scientist with a medical breakthrough just yet…
What of course I mean is that fellow Chameleon Steve and his wife Pippa have given birth, to a beautiful baby girl! The wonderful news arrived in our inboxes early this week as we heard that little Georgie Freya had arrived, healthy and happy.
Apparently Steve’s cat ‘Monkey’ is finding the whole situation rather confusing, but a huge congratulations to the new family!
