Winner -Technology PR Campaign of the Year
SpinVox, the world’s first voicemail-to-text-service, was launched in October 2004. The service automatically converts the subscriber’s voicemail to text and sends it to the mobile phone as either a text message or e-mail.
As a small start-up company with limited funds, SpinVox decided to use PR as its sole marketing tool. Chameleon was employed in September 2004 – only two weeks before the launch.
Chameleon recommended a two-pronged approach: a consumer programme aimed at driving awareness and sign-ups and a corporate programme to drive industry take-up, with the programme split into three distinct phases: The Launch, Building Momentum, New Services and Successes.
SpinVox made a significant impact on the mobile industry. It featured in 72 pieces of national press, with the founder Christina Domecq and SpinXox featuring in almost every major national newspaper and business publication, including the FT, Dow-Jones and European Business. It had over 23 consumer hits, including top mainstream publications such as Stuff and Nuts and even the Sunday Sport’s Lads Mag; trade and broadcast coverage, as well as numerous regional hits and all the major telecommunications and IT media.
75 high profile journlaists were signed onto the service and over 90% of people who took up the free week trial went on to sign up to the service.
